Cali Fund
Prozomix contributes to the Cali Fund for 2025 and 2026
July 2026 – Prozomix makes its first annual Cali Fund contribution, with the initial contribution covering periods 2025 and 2026.
James Finnigan [Technical Director] commented
Prozomix is a leader in discovering biocatalysis enzymes derived from the extraordinary diversity of the natural world, mined from in-house metagenomics libraries exclusively sampled from the UK. Following our recent entry, via an acquisition, into AI-driven enzyme discovery / engineering, we now believe contribution to the Cali Fund has become essential and fair for Prozomix; publicly accessible data is, and has been for many years now, exploited by the biotech sector at large by widespread application of LLMs developed via the absolutely necessary, yet fundamentally indiscriminate, exploitation of DSI. Moreover, we firmly believe that all established SMEs in this sector that use DSI should also be contributing to the Cali Fund regardless of their size, at a 0.1 % of total revenue / capital inflow level, as that would be fair, and collectively generate meaningful support for the Cali Fund.
Simon Charnock [CEO] commented
With over twenty years of experience working in innovative biotech SMEs exploiting DSI to one extent or another, in my view such businesses at large would only benefit from contributing 0.1 % of their total revenue / capital inflow, be it sales of products / services, or investment (post first million USD of investment), and no progressive investor, from an enhanced ESG perspective if nothing else, should object to future, or even historical, funds being very partially employed as such. I wholly believe at this stage it is time for SMEs to follow the leadership of the Friends of the Cali Fund, and collectively pay-as-we-go from now on, just like we do for so many other inputs into our enterprises.
