Further rapid / essential growth of the global renewable energy sector is dependent heavily on the development of new technologies.  In particular, greatly improved access to the huge natural diversity of enzymes evolved to degrade plant cell wall material especially offers hope with respect to the emerging biofuel / biorefinery programmes.  However, tapping into this diversity requires a committed step approach to how such products are developed and made available to the global research community.

Prozomix is currently engaged with a rapidly expanding R&D programme to deliver such advanced research products, that are fully compatible with current rapid research techniques.  This grant, jointly held with Northumbria University, UK, will attempt to address some of the practical issues relating to efficient biomass saccharification, by developing complete libraries of glycoside hydrolases, lyases, esterases and other activities, from genome sequenced organisms (not yet currently extensively studied from this perspective) possessing especially large repertoirs of these enzymes, such as Opitutus terrae PB90-1.
